Today was the baby step into this new way (for me) of doing recording and mixing. I was fairly certain (thanks to help from others here, audiokid in particular) about how to get going. Today braving the install of the RME HDSPe card into the Mac was step one. Before all that I had to setup power and network etc.

It's my first post here but I've been around for couple of weeks now just reading and gaining knowledge from this great forum as well as other places and books I found.
I'm planning to move my composers workshop to a dedicated room which is rectangular and very small (2,59mH x 2,1mW x 2,9mL = 8ft 6in H x 6ft 10ft W x 9ft 6in L). All plastered concrete.

This is a spin off of the converters thread that seemed to have gone off the rails - particularly in relation to certain plugin processors - to use or not to use; are standalone converters necessary, who uses what during their mixes, and lastly, whether or not anyone wants to partake of a mix of a project of mine (that has been giving me fits).

I have a number of questions concerning mixing. in my 2 years of making instrumentals, I'm only beginning to learn about proper mixing now. The mixing in all the work I've made in the past 2 years sounds like garbage; and I wanna change that.

Bass is like love. Some like-em full figured, some like-em slI'm and bossy. Some like-em noticed but covered up just enough to leave it to our imagination.

Hey all, the digital mixer at the studio is getting phased out. We had been using the bus compressor limiter on the board for roughs and some quick mixes that weren't coming back.
