Description

Overhead microphones are used in sound recording and live sound reproduction to pick up ambient sounds, transients and the overall blend of instruments. They are used in drum recordings to achieve a stereo image of a full drum kit. They are used to create a balanced stereo recording of an orchestra or live productions.

Also search equidistant and the 3:1 rule (A point is said to be equidistant from a set of objects if the distances between that point and each object in the set are equal) can effect the phase between two microphones.

Best RODE Mics for Overheads

Hello all, i'm currently looking to buy some mics for a home project type studio. The cost needs to be bear minimum as its mainly for pre-production and i can't afford anything too flash.
I was hoping to buy just enough mics to do a kit on 8 tracks (Basic PC with midiman delta1010 setup). I was hoping that I can also use these same mics for Micing guitars/bass and vocals.

overhead mics - Matched pair or not?

Hi there

I've got a question for all of you

Let's say (for example) that you have to record a drumkit and there are only 2 options for the overhead mics.

a) 2 cheap small condensators (identical)

b) 2 expensive large condensators... BUT...
They are not identical, cause one is the "tube-version" of the other... So they sound a bit different.
