Mic Placement
I was using this mic in a classroom. No carpet. Mic was about 4.5 feet from the bell of the trumpet.
ADK Vienna Edition Cardioid True Condenser Microphone
It was recorded on a macbook/DP6/Apogee Duet. I used a small amount of EQ and added a little bit (5%) reverb from the ProVerb on DP6.
It still sounds hollow. Am I using the wrong mic to record trumpet?

Speaker/Monitor placement
In Preparation for my new monitors arriving I moved my workstation to the other wall and set up shop there. My audio sounds so completely different now even before I set up the monitors. My speakers have down firing mid woofers and instead of bouncing off wood they now bounce off of glass.

Condenser Placement
How come whenever I see a recording session in commercial/film whatever it always seems that the condensers for vocals are suspended upside down. I have come up with a few possibilities myself.
1. It helps accentuate certain frequencies.
2. It keeps the stand out of the way so the singer can move or read lyrics below the mic.

Dynamic Mic Placement
Hi, I was just wondering real quick, where should the dynamic mic be placed in relation to the mouth if you want it to pick up higher frequencies?

Where's a Good Place to Get Free Patches/Effects/Samples?
Whatever they're called, I'm recording straight in so I want realistic guitar sounds (both lead and rhythm) as well as decent sounding drums and synths, the whole package basically. Is there anywhere to download decent free ones?
Placement of instruments in the soundscape
Ok I know that sounds dumb but it's the only way I could explain it. How do you get a guitar up high in the top of the left headphone, another one down the bottom etc etc.? Like Chinese Democracy, everything is so tight and in it's own space. I understand pan left and right, how do you get them up and down. Is it mixing frequencies? Anyone explain?

EQ Rack placement
Question:
I'm trying to set up a little sattelite drum lab in a friends house with some older equipment of mine: A 1607VLZ some 5" M-audio monitors, a stereo 15 band EQ (i think its ART 341) and the old m-box. I used to set them up this way:Mic--->Mixer--->EQ--->MBox--->Monitors.

guitar mic placement
If I have a 4x12 guitar cab in a small very dead vocal-booth type room, I know I will need the standard sm57 on the sweet-spot of the cab speaker, but would putting a condenser at a farther distance and getting the phase right make any difference to the sound?

Online Microphone Placement Calculator
A while ago (a few months?) someone posted a link to an online calculator that would create contour plots on different microphone configurations.
You could input the type of pattern on the microphone, the angle, and the position. It would graph the power as a contour plot, as well as show the left to right balance and a number of other statistics.
