Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

8 channel preamps?

Hi guys...so my question is this- (may sound really stupid)
my setup is the following- a Mackie CR1604 mixer to a dbx 266xl (compressor/limiter) in to my Digi002 console. I'm thinking of buying a 8channel preamp for my setup hoping it will make my sound a bit fatter/warm/etc...do you think it is a wise idea?

The Brick vs. . Focusrite Platinum preamps (Octopre, etc)

Anyone have experience with both Focusrite's Platinum range preamps (Octopre, Voicemaster) and The Brick? How do they stack up? Has anyone compared The Brick to a VTB-1? (I assume at $100 the VTB-1 lands in that budget category of "sounds okay, but nothing special"). Any insight would be appreciated.

The difference between 'Level' and 'gain' in a preamp.

I know that this might be a piece of cake for most of you pros out there but this is something that always keeps me wondering whenever i set the output volume of a preamp. My preamp has a gain and a level for each mic channel. what is the difference? how should i go about setting each of them cause it seems they are doing the same thing. I am sure I missing out something

What multi-channel preamp should i get

Hey i'm ordering my new 24" iMac soon than will come the digi 002 rack. I'm just not sure how the multi-channel preamp works with the 002 can anyone sum that up for me? What does it need to have/do? Also which would you recommend on a budget. The guy at my local pro audio store recomended a prosonus one not the firepod but another one that was 1300 bucks which is way to high for me.

ok, eff the out board preamps

i just want a straight decent sounding console that i can use with pc based recording, forget right now about the a/d and d/a boxes i'll need, i was wondering if there's anything in the 3000 range, i want at least 25 faders 24 for the channels and 1 for the stereo bus, i want 24 mono inputs, has a control out with built in talkback mic, i mean theres got to be some thing,

thanks,

x
