Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

User opinions on preamps

I have a few more gigs lined up and should be able to expand my mic pre selection in the near future.

Currently I have 2 Portico 5012’s, a Aphex 107 (slightly modified) and a heavily modified ART tube PAC.

I will be able to test out my top 3 choices, but in order to narrow the field

I would appreciate the input of people actually using the gear.

Preamps n Stuff

My recordings still sound cold-blooded, at least to my ears. I'm looking to breathe a little life into them, as well as the lush harmonic quality of a preamp. I'm not blindsided by tube seduction, so solid state will do just fine.

1. I want one especially for my guitar recordings. I intend on putting it after the SM57 that is in front of my amp and before my PreSonus Firebox.
