Hi, I know this has been discussed here before so I ask for your indulgence. I'm trying to a Mackie 12 channel mixer as a patchbay- plugging my Avalon m5, API, Focusrite, Neve Portico and maybe an old Joemeek down to two inputs into my OO2.
I've read about someone, maybe Kurt bypassing the preamps in his Mackie when heading ito his DAW,
Am I on the wrong track?

If you were to buy the best most versatile mic and preamp, which one would you buy? Neumann ua87 mic with Avalon Pre? Price no bar.

Okay, here’s a bit of a puzzler for you…

First, a little background: I’ve set up our kit (a ‘67 Ludwig oyster pearl kit with a Black Beauty snare) with these mics:

I know the best preamps are usually the standalone ones. But the way I see it, if I'm gonna buy a mixer (to provide flexible monitoring options when tracking a band), might as well get the one with the best preamps available, that can always come handy.

We're talking sub-500$ here, 4 mic preamps is sufficient.

My experience with 5.1 thru 10.2 has been mostly disappointing. So, has anybody here played around with Ambisonics? Does anybody enjoy listening to Beethoven straddling an acoustic divider?

If you are gonna get the BIG DADDY of 'em all, which really stands as #1 in your book?
Lets talk single channel units...
The GT ViPre is a single channel "damn near do it all" design.
The Millennia STT-1 also a single channel design, is called the "All In One" recording system.

I JUST BOUGHT A TUBEPRE AND IT MAKES A TERRIBLE LOW NOISE..IS THIS NORMAL? HOW DO I CONNECT IT? DO I CONNECT THE Mic DIRECTLY TO IT OR USE IT AS AN INSERT IN THE MIXER? DO I NEED TO GO TO WHO I BOUGHT IT FROM? I AM CONFUSED!

Hi. I posted a topic about a recording interface & laptop and it got removed and relocated. Sorry if it seemed in the wrong place, I felt that since the setup required an interface it might warrant being at recording gear...so to rectify, I've divided the post up.

I need to mic up a drum kit to my MOTU 828mkII, but it only comes with 2 preamps.

Is there any rack mount preamps or some cheap alternative to give me the extra 5-8 preamps for mice?

I need to go with the cheapest, but best sounding piece of gear out there. So if it's only $100, that's great, but if it's more like $500, I can still afford it...
