I would be interested to hear from any/all on best choices for mic preamp for ribbon mics. I am particulary interested in recording acoustic stringed instruments, especially guitar, dobro and Weissenborn guitar.

I currently use "E-MU 1820M" as my preamp, and I am thinking
about getting the "ART Pro Channel" preamp and compressor.

Is there a real differance between the two preamps?
Is it a real "upgrade" or will I recieve the same results?

I want to make sure that I understand this correctly. .this might sound dumb.

What would be the best mic in the 200 dollar range to match up with an M-Audio Ozone Midi Controller with a built in preamp? Im looking for something that works well with rap and RnB vocals. The challenge I'm having here is finding a great sounding, versatile mic preamp for under $1k. I'd prefer a channel strip - but to find one of high quality under $1k may be difficult. Also, I'm fine with a single channel - but if there's a great item with 2 or more - that would great too. Anyone have any suggestions? Here are a few auctions that ended on eBay recently.

What design does it use? And is it in a league above small console pre's? Would it considerably improve my sound if I was currently using the latter?
