Mic preamps, eq, mics
I've been using some different combinations
Pacifica preamp thru nail compressor by a designs
Loving the punch,clarity and dimension.
---
Ua 710 and the hammer eq by a designs got a cool 70's vibe for sure. The hammer is very musical it allows for suttke and drastic changes without damaging the audio.
it's got some cool mojo. A lot of mood.

What colour means in a preamp?
I'm curious what our interpretation of colour is and what this translates into a mix for you. I mean, some pres are more middy, have less top and bottom with a git to them. Is that a good thing?

Upgrading mic preamps ?
Hi everyone, I'm finally in a position to upgrade my microphone preamp but I'm finding it difficult to make a decision on what's available within my budget. I'm using a Neumann 103 and a RODE NT1 and an RME Fireface UCX interface. I'm looking for a warm, punchy, almost vintage vocal sound. This is my short-list (between €900 and €1,100) - any advice would be appreciated.

More or Less flavor (Preamps)
Hi there,
I currently have a LA-610, a UA 7-410, a ISA two and Focusrite liquid saffire.
The 410 is good for the versatility but, doesn't have the same dynamic and clean levels as the ISA. I got the LA-610 after the 710 and realise that the 710 is good but doesn't reach the sweetness of the LA-610.

Converters or preamps?
Later this year I'll be looking to upgrade either of those items. Because my needs have changed, I'm only interested in 2-track (or stereo) converters or preamps. I've no need to record a full band all-at-once in a large studio room.
The convo/preamp will be used for vocals, acoustic guitars, brass/woodwinds, etc.

Impedance question with mic preamps.
I am mildly versed in electronics. I understand that when you plug a mic into a mic preamp the mic expects to "see" or "react" to a specified impedance. I think that you want the mic preamp circuit to be x amount higher impedence then the mic (maybe I have that backwards).
