my first good preamp...
Sorry for yet another "which preamp" thread, but after a few years on the Digi001 and now Digi 002R pres, I'm now ready to invest in something better. Here are a few specs which could help you help me deciding on one.

preamp and compressor
Ok I've been reading a lot on RO with regards to preamps and compressors. I am pretty set on getting a Focusrite ISA 428 for the front end of my daw. @ $1600 it doesn't leave me much room for buying a compressor, so I think I want the RNC 1773 to go with it. One day I would like to get a red 3 compressor, but right now I'm just about spent up.
Anyways, any thoughts?

Mackie preamps vs. . A&H
With GC offering the Mixwizard 16:2 for $800, my credit card is getting the urge to buy something - even though new mics are next on my "list", that mixer is tempting.
I currently have a pair of Mackie 1402s - a VLZ and a VLZ Pro. I use them primarily as a banks of mic preamps for on-site recording, coming out of the inserts into a MOTU 24i.

What to get next, better 8ch preamp or better stereo preamp
I'm wondering what the next buy would be for my studio..
Here's my setup:
Pentium IV 2,4Ghz
Win 2000 pro
1 Gb ram
120Gb disk
Mackie preamps and firewire interface
ok so i had pretty much decided to go with a MOTU 828mkII with an m-audio octane for connecting 8 drum mics! for live i'd use my Behringer 2004's 4 of 8 preamps ! it has a main output and an alternative! i'd connect mics to 4 channels and pan them hard right and left! then i'd send from the outputs to the direct ins of the 828mkII.

Preamp to add warmth
Hi,
I am looking for a pre-amp to add some warmth to my recordings.
I will use it for vocals and guitar, but one of the main points would be to run my synths and some software synths through it, to make them sound warmer, richer and fatter.
So far I came up with these choices:

Getting the right preamp
Hello,
This will be a super general question so please bare with me!
Could someone suggest a very general assortment of tests that could be performed on preamps in order to narrow down which two best suited my needs?
I would like to hear how others test pre's before purchasing 2 new ones in the near future.
Best regards,
mIchAEl
