My path was Oktava mk319 mic to a Mackie 1202vlz pro to dbx266xl to maudio sound card to the UAD1.

Hi, what do you people think about Vintech preamps as a means for achieving a warm "vintage" tone on DAW recordings. For instance, the new Vintech 473, although has "essential" EQ, offers 4 channels of "1073 style" preamplification.

I am soliciting opinions on my next gear purchase. Given this gear, AKG Solid Tube, KM-184, M-Box, into a Power Book G4 with and external firewire harddrive attached, what would be my next best and most logical purchase? I am using this gear to record acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiiddle, bass, banjo and vocal.

I have a Aardvark I/O and it has 4 inserts. I need to add another compressor but I have run out of inserts.

Is there any problem in going from the mic to the compressor and then to the mic input? My best guess is that it puts the compressor before the preamp, just not sure of this is a problem.

Hi all, I'm at the stage where I think upgrading my pres might be a good plan. What I wanna know is are all these high-endpres worth the extra cash over their budget rivals? Is there a real noticable difference between them and the budget stuff?

Let me try again and refrase it...
I think (but I should say I know) that impedance matching could be key in a lot of recording applications.
It affects the way two pieces of gear interact with each other.
What I am interested in is impedance matching within microphone and preamp.

I need suggestions.
My budget is about 5000 and I need the best match possible to obtain a very open full and detailed sound out of the microphone-preamp combination.
Possibly someone who has been experimenting with lots of them. I really believe that is the combination of the two that makes the difference.

I'm new to this so you have to forgive me and have patience with me.

What's the difference in result of the sound quality of a cheap preamp, a good preamp, and an expensive preamp?

What would you most likely hear in the vocals that point out a cheap preamp and a good preamp?

I am adding some more API modules and I love my Brent Averill Neve 1272. Does anyone own his 312a's? How do they compare to the 512c's?

I just upgraded to a Neumann TLM 103 mic and now I want to get a better preamp to go with it. I have an ART Tube MP preamp, which sounds better than my Mackie pre’s. The most important thing for us is to get a good sound for female lead vocals, as my wife is the songwriter and generally sings the lead.
