Is Pro Tools suitable for home recording?

Hi all i'm looking to upgrade my home recording studio. I currently use a Boss Br900CD but i find using it to its full abilities it still sounds amateurish and the programmed drums are too monotonous. Is pro tools good? I have a windows xp so i can only use up to edition 7. What hardware do i need to get for pro tools 7 and what price am i looking at. Also is pro tools an industry standard?.

Pro Tools HD

This question has been asked by many here and on other forums but never quite answered... so I'll ask it again, rephrased :P

I pay... whatever... 5-15k for a Pro Tools HD setup. I pay 1k for some other DAW+interface setup. What bonus do I get from PT8HD if I already have a freakin' beast of an audio computer?

Pro Tools on MAC - Not a playback volume

Another pro tools m-powered question. I have a MacBook with Pro Tools installed on it. But if i want to start a new project it says that my HD is not a valid playback or record volume. I checked Digidesign website and my HD was formated the way it should be Extended (Journaled). It will not allow me to set my volume on Record or Playback in the Workspace menu either.

Recording sound samples from DVD to Pro Tools

Hello my names Aaron and I'm brand new to this forum. I've been trying to add movie samples to my Pro Tools sessions by recording from a DVD player to Pro Tools. The DVD player has a coxial output on it and I had the understanding that would work the same as S/PDIF. I've tried using the RCA cables from the DVD player to the S/PDIF in on my MBOX2 but nothing seems to be working.

What do I need to record with Pro Tools 7?

I am new to home recording and just got ahold of Pro Tools 7. I was told that I am also going to need an audio interface (like an mbox) for the program to work. Is there any restrictions to which audio interfaces I can use? What are the good ones that won't break my bank account?

Is there any other hardware that is ESSENTIAL to recording?
