Multi-core processors and Cubase/Reason

So here is the deal...

I want to get a laptop to use as a mobile DAW/electronic(midi)insturment/effects processor. I have the PreSonus Firpod and use a Cubase/Reason combo and a variety of plugins (Waves, Amplitube, etc.) to do most of my recording/production. I was wondering if it would be better to get a multi-core comp (c2d or X2) or get a single core processor.

Which processor?

I am putting home studio together, but must be mindfull of budget. Have a good used computer dealer in town.I gave him the specs common to most of the machines designed for DAW and he said the best match would be some old servers he has coming in, so here is the deep theoretical question.
