Levels on drum recording way hot...
Forums
Well, its been a while! Anyway, here's the deal. Went to record a drum track today. Its a 4 mic, Glynn Johns type setup as far as micing. A pair of AT2020's overhead, an AT4040 on kick, and an MD421 on snare. These are running into a Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer for pre's only, and out the sends on the Mackie into a Delta 44.

Recording Drums - overhead mics
Forums
Hello!
I am reading, listening to other people records and trying to choose the best setup for my band for recording drums.
I have PreSonus firestudio project and SM57 mic. I was considering Shure Beta 52 for bass drum and for overheads I can buy used pair of sm81. SM57 would go for snare.

what software recommended to synth a vocal or drum recording
Forums
Can any recommend a software for Cubase 4 or 5 compatability to do synthesizing effects on drum and vocal analog recorded tracks. robic sounding vocal stuff and cool drum intro stuff etc. I downloaded a demo version of Alchemy(?) but couldn't figure out how to get it to do this even though they say it can. They have a cool demo video.
What mics are best for drum overheads and bass drum recording?
Forums
I'm looking for cheap (50-100 dollar range for each mic) overhead and bass drum mics to record my drum set. I already know what I'm going to be using for the snare (sm57 of course).
Thanks
Cubase 5 (Recording and Editing Live Drums?)

One of the big things that I haven't been able to figure out on Cubase 5 is how to easily edit live drums that aren't quite in time. For my drum tracks I usually have 8 different tracks that I am working with, and in order to fix timing issues, I have to edit each individual track.

drum recording and mixing
Forums
Hello,
I'd like a post about this. I will tell you, as simple as it get's, how I do stuff.
- bd mic pointing to the center for nice attack or not for more boom.
- sn 45º-60º towards sn center (no bottom mic)
- oh at 1.8 mts height (if the drummer hits them hard)
So, after that (good sound coming out), I just record and apply the following:

Compression during drum tracking?
Forums
Hi all,
I am relatively new to recording drums and I would be grateful if some of you could share your drum compression strategies.
In particular, I'd be interested to know if you use compression during tracking, and if yes on which mics and how you set up your compressors.
