Recording Vocals in Pro Tools 9 question

Forums

Hey guys, quick question about recording in Pro Tools 9. I have a saffire pro 24 interface and when recording with an AKG 220 mic, the levels are fine but when looking at the waveform, it is extremely large. so yea. That is a picture of wat I'm speaking of. How do i make that look normal. it looks like its peaking but its not even that loud and i only had the gain on my saffire to 4.

Recording Vocals

Forums

I've been getting into composing my own songs and although I'm not a practised or very good vocalist, I get by. I have been recording a mate doing vocals and apart from the fact he's a far better singer than I could ever hope to be, I find his recorded vocals sound far better than mine. It's as though I make a better job recording him than I make recording myself.

Sounds like speaker turned on full volume when recording vocals?EXAMPLE INC

Forums

I record using Sony sound forge on my laptop. At the moment I'm using a Behringer ultravoice mic pluged into the input of my ultragain pro then the output is going straight into my laptop mic in.
Im pretty sure that is wrong and the mic should be the output but i dont seem to have any way of doing that with the leads i have.

How aggressive to be with compressing vocals during recording

Forums

Every recording/mix setup is probably a bit different. I've been advised by mixing engineers to be cautious with the compression while recording, because once it's done, it's done. But my experience has been that my Avalon 737 is more transparent than any compressor I can apply during the mix in Pro Tools.

Recording opera vocals in tiny home studio - mic & placement suggestions

Forums

I know, you're supposed to record opera singers in acoustically perfect concert halls, but I'm on a budget and all I have is my 8 x 10 home studio which doubles as both a control room and a live room. My goal is to record live vocals over pre-recorded orchestra karaoke tracks to famous soprano arias.

Recording guitar, vocals, cello, violin LIVE with 2 mics?

Forums

I'm recording a songwriter with 1 large condenser; vocals and acoustic guitar. Also, I'm Micing a cello, and a violin with a RODE ntg-2 shotgun. I'm running both into a Zoom H4N recorder.

Here's a mock-up of how I intend to set up. Nix the back-up singers. Any ideas or tips?
Much appreciated!
