Hi all. I am really new to the world of microphones and I'm overwhelmed after reading for a few hours. I need a microphone to simply sit on my desk and record spoken voice. I also need a zero latency headphone monitor jack on the mic. Ideally this will be a mic in the $100ish price range and USB. If I have to spend more, convince me why!

I have an Alesis 3630 compressor which -- based on how I am reading the documentation -- has two unbalanced channels which can be used separately or as the R-L sides of a stereo signal. I also have a PreSonus Firestudio Project.

I was looking at the back panel of this Fender Pro Reverb,
and it has both Effects Send/Return AND PreAmp Out/In jacks.
I was wondering what circumstances the Effects Send/Return
would be used instead of the PreAmp Out/In.
Or if there is a situation where both would be used?

I have a problem with one of my studios and wondered whether anybody would be able to shed some light on my issue! We have a problem with fairly drastic gain output drop when we patch any outboard equipment through the insert/return points on the patchbay.

Why my tone is lost in this:

Guitar---Rocktron Pro Gap Ultra (send to)---Digitech 128 Plus(return to)--- Rocktron Progap Ultra---output--- Amp

When i use the mix button in the back of the Rocktron or in the Digitech my guitar tone lost some db's and the sound is very weak...

I was listening to my CD of the "Romantic Warrior" album by Return to Forever, and I am transfixed by how good the drums sound. Can anyone give me any clues as to how these were tracked and maybe what kit was used (it sounds like birch to me for some reason)?

I'm just starting to dip my feet in the waters of MIDI sound modules and I wanted to know people's opinions on what is hot and what is not in the world of modules. We have a Yamaha SY-99 connected to a Roland JV1080 at our school and it's pretty sweet...but I want to know what else is out there, good and why.
