I just finished my video about a fake sm57 from wish.com
I was very surprised of what I discovered while doing it.
Who never thought what if when seeing an add for a sm57 under 30$ ??
Let me know what you thing, about the results, the video and production.
I hope it can help those interested in DIY mics
Many of you know I worked on a microphone-parts.com T47 kit.
I received and built a T12 as well. Here is a video showing it with other mics on a guitar
My T12 has a very pronounced proximity effect, but I think it's a nice addition to my collection.. Still trying it on different sources ;)
Tell me what you think..
Grammy winning producer/engineer Ross Hogarth records Rock Star Supernova winner Lukas Rossi's "Dreamer" with drummer Kenny Aronoff, using Royer ribbon microphones
Has anyone tried this mod?
It's a simple mod - basically, you're just removing the transformer from the XLR barrel housing of the mic by boiling (yes, I said boiling) the housing of the mic ( and of course you have removed the XLR jack and the capsule from the mic first...) which softens up the glue that holds the transformer in place.
With the glue soft from the heat of boiling, you remove the transformer.
I have a friend who works for SSE (sound engineer company in England who do festivals live sound)
My friend borrowed me two flight suitcases full of amazing mic's and also a dual channel pre amp used by Metallica and also a lovely valve pre amp.
I've tried quite a few variations, but I still get a way too "fuzzy" sound to make it comfortable.
