Is two tubes too much?
Hi,
New to the forum but been reading it extensively for the past couple of weeks. My mission: To purchase a Mic and Preamp.
I'm not going to ask which ones to get. Those question have been beaten to death here and I've got more than enough great info from all the posts. I just haven't made my mind up yet.

Starved Plate? Fake Tubes? *is confused*
I have heard tube pre's described as "starved plate" or "fake tubes" at times... is starving a plate or whatever inside a pre a way to get tube emulation? and if it is a starved plate design will it actually advertise as real tube technology? is this something I need to be cautious of? even if it isn't, I'm still curious, please clear the fog for me
thanks in advance

How to treat tubes with proper respect ?
I'm getting mixed opinions about how to make the life of tubes in mics, amps, comps etc as long as possible. Should I for example turn off my vintage Neumann when taking a break or should I leave it on ? Does turning on/off the gear all the time wear out the tube more than leaving it on ?

Better tubes for the NTK?
Does anyone here have any experience in regards to replacing the Sovtek 6922 tubes in an NTK with a "better sounding" type?

Tubes, old & new?
:) Hi Seb! Tell me, are the new tubes made better than the tubes of the 50's and 60's? I remember replacing many 12AX7's and 6L6's in my guitar amps back then. We would take them to the local drug store, and use their "Tube Tester" machine, and they always had a supply.

Here's a question that I hope is easy to answer.
Why tubes instead of solid state?

AC701 tube
People
Does anyone know why the ac701 is considered one of the best tubes for a condenser microphone? I have read what specs I could find on the web. I can understand why the grid wire exits the other side of the tube away from the other outputs.

New Tubes for my Tube EQ
Hi guys,
so i just bought an old Lang 5 Channel Tube Equalizer. Cool little unit, never seen one before. its basically a tone control, five mono channels of high and low boost and cut, at 5K and 100Hz. Comes in really handy for lots of stuff.
