As a last-semester Music Business major, I have to do a career project that involves interviewing and possibly visiting recording engineers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am specifically interested in discussing Internet use in a today's studio environment and what qualifications are looked for when hiring students for internships.

Can I do this internally or I need to do it externally? what I mean is can I free up some tracks by mixing them, applying effects and recording them to a new and "free" track internally?

At work, we have two fully featured Pro-Tools systems. Synchronized together we can easily achieve a track count of 128, with lot of FX and EQ. But naturally that comes at a very high price tag.

How much compression is happening with pop music?

I hear so many different guys replies regarding the amount they put on to "use little as possible" to "lay it on".

I've read that it's put on heavy 3 times throughout the mix. Can someone here shed some light on the subject.
