I can go new mb and pci card route but my HP laptop with USB 2.0 seems to run great with the i7 and 8 megs ram.

    Have great pre-amps..Grace and UA.

I really don't need preamps but seems most USB interfaces all include them. If I go that route I'd prob go the UCX.

Seems like what I need is an ADA with usb output.

Any one have advice on that route and a recommendation for the manuf?

    channels

Just two for now. Maybe more later.

As Gilda said.."it's always something...": Ha!. :)

All the outputs from the pre-amps are TRS.

    Thanks for the response.

I don't have any experience personally w/ outboard adc but check this might be similar to what you are looking for Benchmark ADC1 USB | Sweetwater.com they have a good reputation from what i've read.

RME Fireface UCX. There are 4 line inputs on the rear, and as with all RME gear, the line inputs have separate signal paths rather than being attenuated and put through the pre-amps as they are on most interface units.

RME boxes have excellent ADAC, true.

Also consider SD's USBPre2. It's a great box, excellent quality sound on par with BLA ADAC and the pre's are nice and solid. That's my experience anyway.
