What’s an affordable hardware bass guitar compressor?
There is so many inexpensive pedals that can go before the preamp and so many rack units for studio use.
How affordable and for what kind of setup? Recording or live ?
Quality expectation (album, demo, fun) ?
I’ve been using an original Toadworks Mr. Squishy live and recording.
I need it for both.
I want good enough to not need to upgrade anytime soon.
The Dbx 163x is one of my all time favorite bass compressors. ive chosen it over the 1176ln silverface before. cheap, simple, punchy, classic.
MXR M87. Pretty damn amazing. Especially for a pedal. Its almost an 1176 in a little box.
I have an old dbx 163 that I use just for bass. It's a half rack model. I love it. I think you can get them for fairly cheap on eBay.
This thread is nearly three years old, but I have a question if anyone is still here. How do you set the threshold on the MXR M87?
It's a fixed threshold, it can't be changed.. What you do is push the input higher to hit the threshold harder or the other way around.. It's easy to see with the gain reduction leds..
