I will never, ever sing. But, as an all around mic I am looking at an AKG4000b to start. This would be the SECOND piece of equipment I own.

IS it an alright mic? Or a fancy radio shack toy?

Sounds nice on certain voices. I had a female with a sort of soft voice and the C4000 sounded excellent on her. It gave just the right amount of high end lift while still sounding full.

    i liked it very much.
great for vocals (male or female) has alot of high end "air" also great for classic guitars.
its a great mic for the price of it.
just get a good pre-amp and a good vocalist and rock"n"roll
