    Hey there,
Iam a newbie to the world of home recording and I have a couple of very basic questions.
I play the piano now for quite a while and would love to capture the sounds of the piano (guitar voice etc.) I need 6-8 tracks of
recording and at least 3 simultaneousrecording tracks. I need only the basic effects and a built in preamp would be nice. My price budget is around 500-1200 dollars for the recording console, but it's preety tight as I don't have much more money for mics etc. and would like to invest there too.

I wanted to know which module will suit my need better: a computer based module (such as MBOX) or an external digital workstation.
Do you have any recommendations on specific gear?

How is that we could possibly know what will suit your need better? It's hard to say which is better for you. Spend some time searching through the site around here and others. Read, make notes do your basic research, weigh your options and come to a conclusion that works best for you.
