Everyone has told me that i should at least have one really good condenser mic for my studio. I am wondering what you guys would recommend. Im not looking to break the bank here, but i am willing to spend around 1200. How do the AKG 414's sound in comparison to the Neumannn's? Specifically the tlm 127? Any other recommendations?

I have found the Soundelux U-195 to be exceptionally versatile with the potential to be far larger sounding than any of the other mics you've described... but as always... YMMV.

The 414 will be the most versatile of the mics mentioned. I've found the Soundelux to strike-out on more aggressive male vocals. The 414 is not my favorite "go-to" mic but, for the money, it has the highest batting average.
