well the music buisness is severly depressed right now..almost no end in sight for that. Other than that the usual Suspects here in the US:
LA, NYC, Nashville, etc..there are lesser markets elswhere too of course.

go to L.A. that's what i intend to do.
there's a bigger market there .more ears. don't go to seattle
  5. a lot of people would say NYC, LA, Nashville but you also have to consider atlanta. i'm not just saying it b/c i live there but it's true. the music business is booming down south.

well, it also reallly depends on the genre of music you would like to work within... LA Rock? Chicago Techno? NYC House Music? New Orleans Jazz? Miami Latin?

You know what i'm saying? I would be more concerned with locating the record labels, studios, an artists that you would prefer working with and get involved within those communities. This may point you in the direction of where to move.

Of course, this may not always mean the major cities.

If I had to look at cities that may be of interest... NYC, LA, St. Louis, Nashville, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, Atlanta, Tampa, and more...lol

London is pretty poppin as well... actually thought about that myself for a bit... then i realized the currency exchange rate and became depressed...lol

im in nyc doing dance music... possibly moving to miami for some club work and then off to california for music in video games... ya see, it's the opportunities or better yet - the personal interests that dictate where to be :)

in Canada, where I live, Toronto is by far the best place to blow up, especially for hip hop.

however, many artists these days seem to be blowing up from the same places. NYC, LA, London, ATL etc.

there is too much competition within those cities. i think people living in smaller cities (not towns!!) such as Vancouver (in Canada) may have a better chance of 'making it'.

    i'll echo comments above:

go to a city who's scene you dig and who's sound you're interested in. don't go to Miami if you wanna do indie rock. don't go to chicago if you wanna do Hungarian Folk music.

you'll be able to find and create work anywhere you live. i live in a small Canadian city (700,000 pop) and am quite busy. self-employed for almost 2 years now.
