Cheap monitors or a good grot-box?

    Hi everyone,

My current "monitoring" setup is a pair of Boston Acoustics CR8s hi-fi speakers and a Yamaha subwoofer. I get some translation issues with this system, especially in the upper mid-range.

I'm considering going with either a set of cheap monitors (under $500, was looking at MSP5s) or getting a pair of Avantone Mixcubes. I plan on leaving the BAs connected as well.

Which would help me the most in translation issues?

  2. Bowers & Wilkins 685. Brand new they are $650/pair used about $450/pair.
They dominate every speaker that I've tried that is marketed as a "studio monitor."
