Do you need 64 bit programs to beable to use the new G5?

Or can you still run 32 bit programs like CubaseSX and stuff on it?

There are no 64 bit audio programs available for the G5 yet, the OS isn't even fully 64 bit yet. The G5 has the ability to run 32 bit code natively with no speed loss, so the answer is yes, you can run 32 bit applications on a G5.

any 32 bit app will run on a G5. The only thing that the G5 won't do for you is give you that extra speed, until the developers update their programs to take advantage of the G5.

So when running 32bit programs is the G5 really any faster?

    faster than what?

faster than the g4's if the program is optimized for it.

if it's not then the program can actually tax the system more heavily.

The information I've received from developers is that there is no advantage to 64bit as of right now, but that a year or two down the road that will change.

I'm sure that won't keep the marketing hype from making it's way into nearly every program and computer product that comes out between here and then.

Yes, faster as in faster than a G4
