  1. is this possible? say a sonoma or pyramix DSD capable PCI card to be used with the pro tools on screen software editor and its plugins involved? or is there some kind of strict communication between the two?

    No.

There are a few tools out there for converting PCM to DSD, but nothing having to do with Digidesign. For Editing and Mastering, you have a choice of Sonoma, Pyramix or SADiE.

Pro Tools is PCM only. The only DAWs that can handle DSD are the ones I mentioned.

Dude, if you are going to import into PT, then why not start there?
