About to get a couple of hardware de-essers. The only ones I´ve used are the dbx 900-series which I thought was very nice. Any other options at a reasonable price ? I need 4 channels, tired of the plug-in ones.

have you tried the TDM waves de-esser?
    it is quite good.

Orban de-essers are quite good as well. I've used the same one for many years and haven't come across a situation which it couldn't take care of. I personally prefer them to Dbx's (although the Dbx would probably be my second choice).

If your looking for hardware de-essers then the two you need to try are the BSS 402
    and the Drawmer MX50 De-Esser
I have used the DBX 902, The BSS 402 and the Drawmer MX50. I sure liked the Drawmer, and for the price you can't beat it!
    Good Luck,

Find a dbx263x...the budget half rack version of the famous 902. A very good de-esser and a very good deal if you pick one up.They were cheap even new.

Wasn't there a Manley one that was meant to be nice?

I just picked one up a month ago or so off of Ebay for pretty cheap, and as RM mentions, it works pretty well, especially for the price!

The SPL De-Esser is probably the best I've used...
