Hooking up another mic pre to a 003.

I am basically wondering if hooking up a preamp via lightpipe to my 003 involves anything more than simply plugging it in and seeing the inputs in protools. Also, on a totally unrelated note, is it a good idea to track in protools, while mixing in another program, such as cubase, or will that not work? The reason I ask is because I have a greater selection of plug ins on my cubase rig.

It's just a matter of connecting the lightpipe cable, then then seeing "ADAT 1-8 on your I/O in ProTools. As for your other issue, I do most of my tracking (especially in the field recordings) with Ableton Live, then import my tracks in to ProTools for final editing. So I think as long as you can safely import your files from Protools to Cubase then I say "why not!"
