  1. Is the T.C. Electronics Finalizer good for mastering? If not...what are some compressors, eq's,etc...that I could use to master with? Is a La2a good for mastering? :p

    Yes and No.

Yes if you know what you are doing and stay away from the presets and no it still is an all in one unit that is not very good at anything except over squashing (i.e. ruining) your two track masters.

    Suggest the dbx Quantum II

I have found that the Finalizer is too limited in power, function and features. Now the papa to the Fiinalizer, the TC DBmax is much more powerful, better sounding and flexable tool as well as having the ability to hear what your material can or may sound like through the same kind of broadcasting filtering and processing as used on radio and TV. It is not a perfect box or processor, but it is more than good enough to polish off and maximize loudness on material for those who won't be sending out their stuff for real professional mastering.

And no, I would not think that a pair of LA2A's would be even be close to ideal in sound or as a tool for most mastering situations.

If I didn't have a mastering room to use or go to and only had 1 box to use it's a very good tool.

It won't replace an experienced engineer but when used properly you will get good results. The problem in the past is many people have just used it to make things very loud without the proper eq,compression.

That's when bad things happen to good mixes.
