ok guys i have yet another question about john mayer

ok i just want to now if anyone could possibly tell me what type of mic he may be using for his guitar in this..
i mean u dont have to say the name of the mic..(unless you want to )u can just tell me whether you think it responds well to the highs or lows...whether u think its a dynamic or condenser..etc
and also where u think he's pointing the mic (at the cone, off axis, etc.)

    heres the link

While I think this is a really open ended question somewhere close to impossible to answer... I'll play along because this seems fun!

My guess is that it is a condenser mic close to center cone (within an inch or two) Beautiful tone he's got there though.

As a general rule, an SM57 placed slightly off center of the speaker center, perpendicular to the cabinet is so tried and true for that kind of rig, it would surprise me if that wasn't a good probability of how that was tracked.

The best way to find out for sure is to write him and ask what studio it was tracked at. Then, write the studio and ask them if they still have the tracking notes.
