I'm looking for a good vocal mic somewhere in this range. Any opinions? As I write this, Im waiting the arrival of the MXL V 67G. It is suppose to be a great mic for the money.

I'm probably going to get flogged here, but I have had great success with my avlex avs 80's. I have mentioned this before, but I often prefer it to my c-414. It's cheap, and versatile!
Also I would be looking at studio projects, and rode. Both companies have a good rep, and quality for the dollar is great too.
I've never used the v67g, so I can't comment on it, but I have read comments that indicate it's quite good. You'll just have to try a few out and let us know what your ears tell you.

Consistency has been reported to be an issue with the MXL mics.. Audix has a line of mics that are Asian built (not 797) and they quality control check each unit using computer analysis before they package them for sale at there Wilsonville OR facility. I witnessed this myself. Audix will soon be joining RO as a host of a forum in the Designers corner, to be moderated by Audix product engineer, Phil Garfinkel.

I used the MXL V67G today and it sounds as great as they descirbed it in the ad. It has a very warm and sleek sound, very airy and smooth. It is very sensitive as well. I did some vocals with it and didn't have any problems. It sounds very similar to a AKG 414. It has nice bottom end and picks up the crisp high tones as well. For the money you can't beat it!

I have been VERY happy with my Studio Projects C3. I think it differs from the C1 with the different patterns available.

hows it going friend . I have not used the MXL V67 but would love to try it out . But your discription of a 414 I would disagree with . I find the 414 to be a little hard on the top end .
    just my two cents

Kieran: you say you find the 414 harsh on top. Would you be referring to the b-uls or the TLII?

the b-uls sorry , but that seems to be the one I am always comming across . I don't know if I have ever used a TL II ( same electronics as a c12 ? no tube though ? )
the studio projects mics seem to be popular here. Do you guys like them better than the MXL mics . I think most of those chineese mics come out of the same factory. I am assuming quality control is the difference for most of the brands . cheers

  14. Has anyone who's used both have an opinion on which is better, the Rode NT1a, or the Studio Projects C1?

Same price, i've heard great things about both, but havent heard either mic for myself.

I intend to use them for the following possibilities:
piano, drum room, drum overheads, guitar cabinets, bass cabinets, and inside the kick drum along with a beta 52. Hoping they can handle the spl when padded. I'm only buying a pair, so these are just possible uses, i dont intend to buy 10 of em.

    any opinions?

I never heard a Studio Electronics mic but i can say that the Rode sound is very warm and detailed. I have a Rode NT3 and i just simply love it's sound. But i don't know if this compares to the NT1a.
