I hope I am in the right forum. I am new hear and don't have a lot of knowledge about this stuff just yet.

I will explain what I would like to do. I want to mix channels over a laptop so it's like a studio. I want to cover other peoples music, only without their voice, only their music. I want to dubb my voice in the songs to help me try and find my nature voice.

So I'm looking for a laptop program capable of merging various audio channels and timing them right.

Then I also need to find out how to acquire cover songs as instrumentals without voice as that I can tack my own voice over the song.

Can someone send me in the right direction for doing this? If you could tell me the laptop program I am looking for, I will purchase it.

    Thank you kindly

That's a pretty broad request. There is no software available that cleanly removes vocals from commercial cd's. I would go to a Karaoke store and search for a cd there.

As far as software, there are some free ones you should try first. Kristal, Acid Express or Audacity would do. Make sure you read the manuals thoroughly so that you are sure you have set up the software properly. Nothing will work as you want it to until you do a proper setup after installation. You may need to download an alternate driver for your soundcard. Try asio4all or KX Asio. These will help to reduce latency(the delay between you singing or playing a software synth and hearing it in the speakers).

Start there and when you have done a few songs and gotten comfortable, come back and ask what you need.
