I am needing to purchase a multicore and was wondering:

If I buy an XLR to RTS jack will it work if I plug the jacks in to the 'Line In/ High Impedence' input of my desk. This, of course, is instead of buying an XLR to XLR which would work. I am asking this question because I have had confusing experiences with this stuff before and wanted anothers opinion, especially whether or not the 'line ins' on the desk are balanced or not.

    many thanks,

I probably shouldn't ask this, but...what are you trying to connect to the line ins on the mixer that you want to run through the multicore?
You will need to check the owners' manual for your mixer to see if the "line ins" are balanced, as well as their polarity.
