    Hi,

In this video, I discuss my recent computer upgrade and how it went. I do not do any games, so every decision was aimed at audio recording and multimedia work. Hope it can inspire some !!

let me know what you think !

Looks great, Marco! An impressive performance increase.

For the sake of others watching your video, I would point out that, when installing the CPU chip, the memory modules and any plug-in cards, it's recommended that you wear an earthing wristband connected to a ground point on the computer motherboard. This reduces the chance of static discharges causing damage.

As you imply, the CPU and fan installation is best done by placing the motherboard on a conductive mat external to the computer chassis. After those components are installed, the motherboard can be fitted in the chassis.

Good stuff marco a 75% increase in performance and significantly lower buffer is awesome. Ive got 3 questions.

Whats cpu usage look like on those former 100% usage projects, when you dip the buffer down to minimum? Im curious about whether you could comfortably overdub on those projects in real-time without freezing on the new machine.

Roughly how many tracks and effects are those 100% sessions?

What are you using for a psu?

    A great point !! Thanks..

Humm, too late to test but with lower buffer, I just got cracking and failing audio which made the project playback impossible.

Including submixes and aux : 57 tracks, with about 50 plugins including 1 ampsim and 3 hardware emulations (EQ and comp)

I have a Furman M-8X2 for the preamps and an APC BackUPS Pro 1000s for computer, monitors and interface.

I will also point out 1 very potential error in your video!
The main reason to update your case=COOLING PERFORMANCE!
Cooling performance is THE main reason, besides pointless rgb like a toddler, to update your case!
A Case is not just a case! That's like saying a compressor is just a compressor, anyone will do!
    NO!
When you computer gets hot it will start to get errors, and it will constantly cause thermal throttling! And if it's not cooled correctly that will start to happen upon start up! Meaning your super expensive I9 chip is working as good as a chip that's 6yrs old if it's not cooled correctly! Which means you wasted a bunch of money on that expensive chip! That's right, after a little bit you will find it won't quit run as good as it used to, and not because you haven't upgraded your SSD or cleaned out your cache or temp files in Windows like running CCleaner or another cleaning utility, but the cpu will start to shut down in sectors as the silicon get's too hot!
So let's say your I9 is running at 5.0 on 8 cores(which never happens, but just for $*^t's and giggles), so if it's not cooled correctly it will start to get hot right away when you start it up! So after startup you check you email, check the news, and shutdown any programs you don't need to run your DAW or whatever. Then you start you DAW.
Well by this time, on an undercooled computer you cpu will be at the 70C mark! Well you 5.0 8 core chip is now running at about 3.3 on 8 cores, and you havn't even started a project yet!
Do you see the problem? I can guarantee you have THERMAL THROTTLING on your computer because you didn't want to upgrade your case, and then got a smaller cpu fan to fit in your obsolete case and now your expensive chip functions as good as a 6yr old chip!
That case is terrible for cooling performance! With your air cooled system it's just not gonna cool it if your running big projects maxing out your cpu for long hours! I do it all the time!
You will find a significant decrease in performance from not cooling your system properly! Your CPU cooler, even though it's a Noctua, is significantly under-powered for an I9 chip! They run HOT!
The only air cooler I would possibly recommend is the NHD15! Or go Watercooling!
And for the I9 I would get at least 6x140mm Noctua NF A14 fans for your case!
I'm very surprised you have yet to come into any problems! How many plugins can you load in a session?
I can't even watch the end of it as I'm so scared for your computer!
Don't mean to sound like a dick but it's so hard to watch, and I really want to help you fix that!

Thanks Lovemonkey. One thing I should have mentionned in the video is for me, it's all the same because, I leave the case open, always ready to connect a different project hard drive.
I know having good air flow is a must, but there is a limit at which it doesn't make a difference.. The same as if buying a 150$ powercable is just not going to make a difference..
I haven't experience any performance or heat issue, yet.. But I'm not blind either, I don't discard the possibility to change the casing in the futur..
