So I thought I was going to be able to impress you with my very first acoustic track today, and everything was going just fine... until I recorded it. :D I keep getting horrible phasing. Two mics are being used. 2 SM57's to be exact. One at body and one at upper neck. I get great tone from the body one, fat but not muddy. The neck one seems to not blend well. I have shifted it around a few different times and it doesn't seem to make things any better. Sure I can only use one mic to track it, but I want to learn the two mic method. What do you think?

Can you switch the phase of the mics? If you dont have a phase switch then you need to build an adapter for one of the mics. Simply switch the hot and the ground in the xlr at either end. Put a piece of colored tape on it and mark it as out-of-phase.

If your version of Logic does not have a phase reversal option (doesn't it?) then this little plugin will work. It actually is kinda neat in that it also allows very fine tuning of gain that can be a pain when using computer sliders.

OK, I took your advice and tried to flip the phase on either mic but I think the end result was worse. Maybe I am wrong, maybe there really is no phase cancellation and it is just two different sounding sources that my ear is falsely detecting as phase problems. I'll let you decide.

The original was a source check, here is a newly remixed version.
