Phantom Power +15v or +48v for AT4040

My Rane preamps provide +15v phantom power. The specs for my new AT4040 say +48v.

What are the ramifications of using +15v phantom power with the AT4040 mic?

I found this in my Rane Tech Notes (#148)

Plug the mic in. If it passes signal, all is well.
Phantom power is a wide spec.

Thanks. I was more worried about passing smoke.

Once the magic smoke escapes from the mic, it doesn't work anymore. I've seen first-hand this concept with computers, so I assume it is the same with mics.
