I was just wondering if anyone has a favourite mic pre that is excellent for guitars. I've started to hear the difference quality pres make. But have also realised that each one is better for different things.

I have a Langevin Dual Mono Mic pre and it sound great but i find its to soft for certain types of guitars.

    My favorite is the API

I also like to mix 2 different guitar preamp's, with 2 different type mics at 2 different locations

So I would do something like this....
1 API (up close with SM57)
and 1 Great River (a few feet back w/ KEL HM-1)

    1 Sebatron (up close w/ SM57)
    and 1 Avalon U5 (as a DI)

both ways will get WAY different results
    There are many variables

My favorite for guitars amp is my Neve 1272(early 70s) with the Shure sm57 for dist. tones and the Milab vip50 for clean tones, and i like valve mics like Neumann U47 or my CAD M9 with telefunken valve for blues, jazzz, fusion or rock solo tones.
