I have a question about clock source settings in the UFX.

At the moment i have setup like this:

UFX adat out -> ADI8 adat in
    ADI8 adat out->UFX adat in

Also i have a word clock cable going from the UFX wordclock out -> ADI8 wordclock in

So, on the computer in the Fireface UFX settings in the clock mode section, what do i choose in the clock source drop down menu?

Unless you have an exceptionnal external clock source you better keep your audio interface as the clock source.
I think it's better to do the sync via adat so you will need an adat cable going from the UFX to the ADI adat inputs.
In that case in the UFX settings you will choose internal clock.
If you ever buy a 3rd or more units then you will have no choice to sync them via wordclock.

The cool thing about using the ADAT is that you can redirect the adat input to the analog outputs and use them as headphone mixes (with proper amps).

RME gear has excellent clocking, so, in this case, you have at least three choices (assuming an ADAT cable in each direction between the ADI8 and the UFX):
    (1) Take BNC wordclock from the UFX wordclock out to ADI wordclock in (terminated), set the UFX to internal clock and the ADI8 to BNC clock
    (2) Set the UFX to internal clock and the ADI8 to ADAT clock
    (3) Set the ADI8 to internal clock and the UFX to ADAT clock.

You don't need to consider wordclock input to the UFX unless (as Marco said), you have to clock other devices as well.

The general rule I work to is to have internal or BNC clocking at the points of A-D and D-A conversion. I would use ADAT clock as a source only if there is no conversion in that piece of gear, as it's quite adequate to keep digital transfers in sync. However, a lot of modern gear such as the latest RME range has such good clock regeneration that these rules can be relaxed in many cases with no audible quality loss.

When following example 1, this is how it looks in the fireface settings. 2017-10-10 (2).png.jpg

That looks OK. Is there still a problem? If so, how have you got the front-panel clock selection switches on the ADI8 set?

Clock on the ADI8 is set to WCK. And theres no really problem. I was just expecting to see something that indicates that wordclock is in sync instead of "no lock"

It would say lock if the UFX was the slave and the ADI the master... ;)
