hey everybody i just signed up here.
i was wondering what do you guys would be an ideal choice for a new soundcard.. already i have a few options but depending on my CPU speed, i was curious to see what you guys would think would be possible..
Im in a band and am planning to record our drummer using hopefully around 6 - 8 mics at once..

right now i have a cheap 2 input USB interface but have about up to 7 or 8 hundred dollars US to buy a soundcard that could support that many inputs at a time (6 to 80

basically im just wondering if you guys think that i could do it with a AMD XP 1600, running windows XP with 1 gig of ram.

    my choices are

presonus firepod (will my comp be able to record w/o cracks or interruptions due to low CPU speed?)

delta 1010lt (i am planning to use my yamhapro mix as a preamp or possible by some independed preamps)(only has 2 XLR inputs)

emu 1820m, (DSP would help CPU out but i heard this SC has a ton of problems and drivers are crappy)

any other ideas, advice, comments? responses would be amazing

Your budget is right in line for an RME Multiface.
    Pretty good!

my processor speed.. AMD XP 1600 so its about a (1.4) P4 as i remember.. i dont know whether my PC needs to be upgraded in order be able to record my band.. drums being the most important part being like 6-8 tracks simulateously..

so dont know whether to buy a certain soundcards that help or retard my cause..

    thanks for the info

I've recorded 16 tracks direct on an XP1800.

It's mixdown and plug count that could be a problem. My suggestion is , just start recording and then worry about problems if they arise.

The art of recording is more important than plug or track count and i'm sure you will get enough basic tracks happening to get the main point of the song across.
