I'm trying to use my laptop, Cubase SX3, and a Alesis USB mixer to record. So if I use just my mixer as the primary sound device (i have to disable it in the device manager to do this for some reason), everything records fine. But I can't use a metronome for example without it popping up on the final recording because the output feeds back into the mix, nor can i overdub because of the same reason.

I've been trying to make it so the mixer is the input and the computer sound card is the output, but I keep having problems. When I do this, the recording is very laggy and it's actually a pattern of where it lags. I've been trying to use different sound drivers too, but that does nothing. So you know, I use ASIO4ALL because it is the only one that has low latency so i can use my MIDI controller with synths in real time. So any solution you guys can come up with is appreciated.

    At 6 a.m., I haven't been to bed yet.

Your problem is because you are used to utilizing the computers on board soundcard with its integrated tone generation capabilities for your metronome. Your new USB recording interface most likely still utilizes the Microsoft mixer? If it's popping up in the recording, your Microsoft mixer application is not configured properly. I have written replies on this numerous times over the past almost 2 years. You might try doing a search here for that subject? The Microsoft mixer will first display your playback monitor mixer. By using the drop-down menus, you need to select the recording mixer. Is there where you can only choose what input and playback sources you want to record. Other aspects are configured within the recording software itself. I'll check back year later today to see how you're doing.

Read two operating manuals and call me in the morning. Wednesday morning that is!

Oh yes, I've set that before. I should have mentioned, I have had this work fine on a desktop before. So I don't know what the deal with the laptop is. I have set the integrated sound as the playback audio device, and the usb for recording.
