So, I've got my second PC system out on a rental...
this is what it's got
Asus P4B266, P41.6a(OC'd to 2.13Ghz), 512 Crucial Non-ECC DDR 266 PC2100, Matrox G550, 4RU case with 300Watt PSU, Two RME 9652 Hammerfall cards, Adaptec 2930U, UA UAD-1 DSP Card, Windows 2000 W/Service Pack 2...
Now, project is a 24/96 session...16 tracks of 24/96 running off of a SCSI drive without a single glitch, pop, crackle or even hint of a crash!! No IRQ conlficts..I have all Serial ports and USB ports disabled..Standard PC mode..
The RME's are being fed from an Apogee AD-16 and the goes out to two Apogee DA-16's. Track 24 is a SMPTE signal coming from Nuendo's SMPTE generator....I haven't checked out the CPU usage as of yet tho..soon tho!
Just thought I'd let you know how the "original" ANUS machine was doing!
Yes I say "original" because that is the first one I built! As soon as I got it up and running it needed to be on a rental..so I said the hell with this! I cant live without a computer for a month! lol
So I built a duplicate which is basically the same thing with a few twists of course!
Here's what I'm doing with my system:
Asus P4B266 with 1GB Kingston DDR266 PC2100 NON-ECC CAS2.5, P4 1.6a(OC'd to 2.13GHz), Matrox G550, Layla20, ATA100 RAID controller, 20GB Maxtor, 40GB Western Digital, Plextor 12x8x32, Teac 40X CDROM, USB 2.0 enabled, all other USB disabled, All serial ports disabled, on board audio enabled.
I am running the OS and app drive off of the IDE 1 on the RAID controller, the Data drive off of the IDE 2 on the RAID Controller.
On the Primary bus I have the Teac 40x set as Master(using 40 pin-80 conductor cables) and the Plextor as the Master on the Secondary bus.
This way the optical drives are by themselves since
A: Optical drives do indeed slow down the hard drive
B: When two optical drives are on the same bus(especially a CDR/W) you will lose CDR writing performance!!
I will eventually add a second hard drive to the IDE 2 on the RAID controller and use those for RAID configurations!
Oh..WinXP Pro Corporate version if you were wondering!
Also a Tascam US428 on the USB 2.0 connection for MIDI and Surface control only!
What ya think?!
