Hello everyone

I am lookin for an app (iOS or Android) that turns any smartphone into a wireless microphone for any kind of event. For example I can talk in my phone and sound is broadcasted in real time to the speakers. I don’t want to buy dozens of mics.

Hello and welcome,

What exactly is your intended purpose? (live performance events?)

Every wireless mic system consists of a transmitter and a receiver. Supposing for a minute you find an app and hardware combination, clever enough to overcome all of these other obstacles listed below, and actually transmit from your phone…. what then? What do you envision acting as the receivers for "dozens of mics" simultaneousy?

I'm not saying it isn't a fine idea, I'm saying I don't think the technology exists to do what you hope to do. If it's out there, maybe I missed it. If it isn't out there, do some R&D and run down to the patent office, because I'm sure there are others who would like to squeeze another purpose out of their phones.

OBSTACLES THAT COME TO MIND:

  • The sound quality of a phone's built-in mic is going to be VERY low-fidelity.
  • You can wirelessly pair a phone to a small speaker (or standalone receiver) via bluetooth, but range is typically pretty poor.
  • And in every gizmo of this nature I've seen, each device can be paired with just one other device at a time.
  • The latency (delay time between when you speak and when it's broadcast from the speaker), is likely to be horrific - so "real time" could end up being a few seconds later.

I'm sure there are more, but these were the first four major problems that hit me.

If you do find something promising, please post your findings here. The app developer Von Bruno seems to have a similar area of interest. (microphones / intercom)

You can have multiple participants that connect at the same time. You can download it from the App Store or Google Play and then go to http://www.beekast.com to get your event pass code to open a conf.

Most of these systems have one big drawback - dreadful latency. The delay is enough to make it sound like you have had a stroke - if you cannot learn to ignore your ears, you'll find it very tricky. Get a proper radio mic and get quality, low or zero latency - with a phone you will get delay and unreliability - a big bodge?
