hey I have a set of M-Audio BX5 monitors that I use 80% of the time just to listen to music. I'd like to add a powered subwoofer to give it some kick. I don't want a reference sub, and I will isolate the sub when doing any mixing anyhow. I can get a sub at wholesale from work easily, but my problem is how to interface it...
I have a set of composite stereo outputs (the old red/white) going to 1/4 inputs on my monitors. What would be the best way to add a sub (with a composite line input) in the chain? Any input would help. thanks!

when you do get the sub powered up, if you would like it to be somewhat accurate here is a tip on setting it up.
Once you have established your listening position, get a sound level meter, feed some pink noise through your monitors, measure the reading(db c-weighted), and then measure the sub on it's own, and adjust it until you have the same level according to the meter.
If you train your ears to like accurate sound reproduction, your mixes will sound better.

The just adjust the sub "by ear" until you're happy with it.
Almost any decent "home" sub with stereo line inputs will probably do you just fine with those speakers.
