I'm about to switch to Pro Tools HD 3 Accel system and I'll be getting an SSL XRack with 2 eight-channel and 2 four-channel summing modules for a total of 24 summing channels. Here is the question though. I'm thinking of buying an SSL Alpha Link 24 channel converter that will be connected to SSL Delta Link which is a MADI to Pro Tools converter box. Does anyone have any experience with those new SSL converters yet? How do they compare to Apogee AD16x and DA16x? Apogees are my other option...they are about $1K cheaper but I'd have 8 channels of conversion less for my summing. Please advise.

To both of you in this thread, I am intimately familiar with both the SSL and Lynx products and own an HD|3 Accel rig. I also happen to be a dealer for both lines and was the dealer on site at the AES convention with SSL. I'd be glad to discuss all the details of each setup and all that goes along with choosing one over the other. They are both fantastic sounding converters and it really comes down to the feature set of each, the integration of those units into your existing studio, and exactly how you will be using the gear in an every day environment.

They are great value for money. The AES half is good, had no problems. The analog side is not fully balanced out (floating, but not fully balanced) and the units are neither EBU or SMPTE standard, but something in between!! There is no AES black reference input, if you want AES reference, you use one of the ports on inputs 1-8. Guess which inputs are also the sample rate converters! WCK it is then.
They are good units and do the job well.
