Total noob question regarding soundcard/interface

 Ok, so this is probably a real stupid question, but in searching forums, and the net, I haven't found the definitive answer. Is an interface "the" sound-card, generating/translating audio to/from sources, plugins, midi instruments, etc., or do I still need to install an audio/sound-card (would definitely bypass on-board sound) in my PC? Also,...

Alesis iO2 Interface and ART Tube Preamp - Do i still need a better soundcard?

I read a great reply to a different post about upgrading to an external soundcard and I wondered if this would apply to me also if I am only recording vocals over instrumental tracks and my signal chain is mic>preamp>interface>PC USB input. The songs will be mixed by the producer, I'm only adding my vocals. I record with Cubase LE.

Thanks for any advice.

Computer not recognizing soundcard

Hi all. I've been having some trouble lately with my very old-school set-up. I have a PC, about6 years old, with a Delta 44 sound card. I've never had any trouble with it until the past week. Suddenly, my sound will not work, sort of. In my DAW (Reaper), its fine, but when I try to play any Quicktime video or anything else that's not through Reaper, no sound.
