Hey guys.I have the much hyped (for good reasons) RNC in my rack.So I strapped it across my main mix inserts to get more juice off the mixes. I am in super nice mode to get that triple compression thing. Is it me or there is no way to get usable boost off this box for my mixes, without hearing it pump.I tried every configuration I can think of. What do you guys set this box to when you mix?Or do you use it across the mix at all? I have a Mackie 24/8, so anything is an improvement at its mix bus!

Mundox -

I have a pair of the RNC's and have wondered about this as well. I haven't tried strapping one (or does it require two?) across the mix bus yet, but I'm wondering if the normal mode would be better for that kind of duty? SN mode is great for vox and acoustic guitars, but I've not had much success using it for anything more agressive. Kinda thinking out loud here - maybe I'll give this a try as well.

Addendum: never mind. Just re-read the RNC FAQ. :d:

You can try daisy-chaining both channels.

OUT CH1 > IN CH 2

I need it in stereo though!?

I just finished a 5 song demo for a hardcore band, and I used the RNC across the 2 mix. I used supernice, threshold of -3 to -5, 2:1 ratio, 6 ms attack, 1 second release. Then boosted output. Meters read a max of 4 to 6 db of reduction. Sounded great.

I would imagine it would sound good considering that the material is HC not something that has dynamics.
Thanks for replies guys. :c:

Wouldn't it depend on what kind of juice' you're going for? More density-low ratio, slower gain riding, peak reduction/gain boost? It should be able to do a bit of any of those (except for not doing L2 style peak limiter), but maybe not all at once.
Also might be the question; are their things in the mix that might be hitting it in an inappropriate manner that would cause excess pumping?

I use the RNC quite a bit at my place, but have never had much luck with it as a stereo bus compressor. What I would suggest is trying busing out just your drums through it (not on super nice)and bringing up that compressed drum signal on on two seperate faders and blending it into the overall drum sound. Mess around with attack and release until you get the sound you want. It's very cool.
