Hello, my Pals... :)

So, I've been thinking that I might DL and install a 30 day trial for Pro X3.

If I do, is there any chance ( even remotely) that the newer version could overwrite my existing Pro X 1 program? Or can I install PX3 to its own new directory on my HDD, with its own desktop shortcut?
I'm assuming I can, but really want to check with my fellow Samp users first...

I'm on W10 Home Edition, don't know if that matters or not...

My main concern is that I've got a lot happening in Pro X1 right now, and I'm a wee bit nervous that PX3 may "overwrite" it?
I'm not worried about losing the audio or actual project files, I have those safely backed up on an external USB drive - my concern is that while I'm trying ( and learning) things about PX3, that PX1 won't open and let me continue working on projects in this familiar environment while learning the new platform.

I know this probably sounds a wee bit paranoid... LOL... but I can't help but to be a little concerned.

Thoughts?

Thanks :)

Dear DonnyThompson

For a better answer, I am careful to mention a recent post from the very expert and master Kraznet:

" New versions of Samplitude never overwrite the old ones. I have Samplitude 11, Samplitude Pro X, Samplitude Pro X2 and Samplitude Pro X3 all installed and working. Same with Sequoia versions. "

I personally have Pro X2 and Pro X3. It's all working harmonically here!

Go ahead. You will be enchanted by the news.

I assumed it would be okay, but "assuming" has gotten me into trouble before. Lol.
I appreciate you taking the time to post a reply to my question.
Thanks again, Pal! :)

;)

But I think Magix needs to do better to attract those Sonar users (or anyone else) who may be looking to transition to another DAW. I'm not gonna knock Sonar, I used it for many years, and found it's early versions to be great with audio and midi integration - that was the main reason I switched to it from PT (I think it was still Digidesign then) back in the late 90's, because at the time, I felt PT to be very convoluted with that integration.
But if no one shows any interest in picking up the ball that Gibson has dropped, and keeping Sonar alive, there's gonna be a pretty serious migration to other current DAWs.
I love Samp, but I don't think they've ever really done a good job at marketing it. I found out about it through Chris, Boswell, and Tim Dolbear, and if it hadn't been for them? I doubt I would have ever even tried it. Word of mouth worked for me in that situation, but as a company you can't count on that approach as your main ad campaign.
I think Magix can do better... and they are going to have many ex- Sonar users as potential customers very soon ...but they need to do better promo vids, and target those potential customers by mentioning all the great features to the "common" home recordists. And I'm not saying they should "dumb down" the program to make it easier for those who are looking for "instant" familiarity... but they do need to make the features that they do have attractive to potential new customers. I don't think I've ever seen an official Magix promo vid that was longer than 3 minutes, and those were for upgrades, focused mostly on people who were already customers with older versions. They haven't really spoken to new customers.
I'd love to see them succeed.. but I think they need to change their tac and do a series of official promo vids that could attract new users.
IMHO, obviously. ;)

Donny, you are totally right! Many (MANY!!!!) users say exactly the same in Samplitude Official Forum.

I myself registered my outrage there, asserting that Magix's marketing work is sometimes as noisy as Freemasonry!!!!

A shame, but even so Samplitude is managing to seduce many former Sonar users. The Forum is filling up quickly with new people!

That's good to hear, and good news for Magix, too... but I suspect that these people are largely being directed to it by word of mouth ... and that's certainly not a bad thing ... but that will only ever get a company so far.
Here in the U.S., we have a saying, "skin in the game"... this phrase describes how much (or how little) people or companies are invested into a particular venture. I think that Magix has been relying a lot on its existing customers to tell other people about the benefits of Samplitude, but they haven't really done as much as they could to market their product to new users as a company. They don't have enough "skin in the game" from a marketing point of view. They need to get more involved in attracting new users. Better promo vids - that target specific potential users - with greater attention paid to those who don't know what the benefits of features like VCA Faders, Spectral Editing, Object Editing, etc. are...
They have to do more than just "say" that those features are part of Samplitude, they need to go deeper and show people how this will actually benefit the user.
Some of the best Samp PR vids I've seen, have been produced by Kraznet and Tim Dolbear, through their own motivation and time. These weren't even "official" vids... they were created by people who took the time and gave the effort to help other users. If Magix had the same commitment, put the same great work into vids like that, they would attract more customers.
IMHO. ;)

Hi guys, Sonar refugee here!
I agree that Sammy is pretty well Non Existant in terms of a global presence.
I scored a copy of Samplitude 11 Silver from a UK Music Mag as my first DAW having migrated from a Korg D3200 years ago 2011 on Magix profile but I feel could be much earlier.

But was seduced by some friends and a great deal for a pro version of Sonar 6. Went up to S7, X1 then x3. I finally went for the latest Pro version last Halloween sale and a week later the announcement. Support gave me a full refund.

I think some of Cakewalks undoing was their lack of marketing and positioning of Sonar especially when computing power came to being. It was always underrated but leading edge to those not so invested in time and money with Protools hardware and way of working.
One could say the same for Sammy, vastly underrated.

PTs have managed to keep their foothold as the industry standard and have loyal users and the only time I have heard of Samplitude has been with Mastering Engineers using it in videos Interveiws I've seen. Quite a few!

I have owned a copy of Reaper for a while now and was going to just use it Then DAWs started offering crossgrades and many Sonar users went to Studio One.
One thing is for sure the exodus of users is a phenomenon to be noted in business. Support and being there, belonging is tremendous goodwill.

But when that ProX3 Suite deal came to my notice, it was a no brainer; I am a Sammy user again!
I have much to learn!

I have been using Samplitude from the early days and then upgraded to Sequoia 9 - then 10 - then 11.

But Sequoia is an expensive upgrade, so I bought the Samplitude $149 deal so I have the latest version and all the extras and can swap projects between Sequoia 11 and Samplitude when I need things that the latest version does and my old one doesn't.

A great program.

They did extend and extend the offer which finally finished (unless tehy extended it again) on the 14th Feb.

John...
Is there any thing in particular that stands out for you in this newest version of Pro X you got that you feel is worth the upgrade? Or several things?
Have you found any features in this newest version that you now consider to be "must haves"?
Features that have made your workflow more efficient, or that have opened up new possibilities for what you do? I'm just curious. :)

Dear Donny,

As far I remember you have Samp Pro X, right? If yes, from Pro X to X3 you will have a LOT of improvements, from the Object Editor, workflow in general, to Mixer.

I would not have a single novelty to mention, but several.

Your best adviser here would be the demo installer. Do not hesitate to download it to navigate in depth in this current version. Even if it is not immediately visible, you will come across many peculiarities worthy of surprise and enchantment.
