I am currently using EZ Drummer as a plugin on Logic 9.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get a thudding 'kick' from the kick drum? I find i am either getting it buried in the low end, or it is distorting terribly!

Thanks for your advice!

I usually boost at about 60 - 80Hz (high Q setting) and somewhere between 5000 - 7000Hz for the click with a low Q. I then cut somewhere between 300 - 400Hz and sometimes around 200Hz and everything below 20Hz. But it all depends on the kick sound...
Then compress quite hard with attack around 20 - 40 ms and a mid to slow release.
This usually works for me.

Logics FatEQ and Compressor (you could start with the kick preset and tweak that to your liking) are more than adequate.

Another thing you could try is to add another sample of a kick drum and mix it with the original one. EQ separately and send both to a bus and compress.

Oh yes. Forgot that one.

Try cutting the frequencies on the bass you boosted on the kick and boost the ones you cut. Give each its own space without separating them too much. Bass and kick are supposed to work together.
