Get an interface capable of more than 2 tracks at a time into the computer.

what kind of interface could be used? it seems the USB connecting ones only allow 2 tracks at a time.
should I get a different mixer? or could a sound card be hooked up to the one I have in order to do this? if so.. what kind is reccomended?

First off, the point of a mixer is to combine many inputs into few outputs. Since you want to get many inputs into the computer, the mixer is unnecessary. What you need is an audio interface with lots of separate microphone input channels.

I believe there are several USB interfaces with more than 2 channels of recording, including mixer/interface combos like your Behringer. Going to Firewire may let you get more tracks, and going with a PCI based host system like MOTU PCI-324 or PCI-424 makes 48 or more at a time a possibility.

It would be easier to give specific help if we knew what kind of computer you have (laptop/desktop, Firewire, processor type etc.) and what your budget is.

Well I can still return the mixer, I still have enough time in the return policy. And I can either record on a laptop or a desktop computer. I know one of the computers I have is missing a sound card... is there a way to hook up the mixer to a soundcard to get the number of slots I need?

Unless you have a sound card with more than 2 record channels (left and right stereo), which is unlikely, then the answer is "no".

It looks like that might do the trick. But I think you'll find people on this forum will more strongly recommend external audio interfaces over internal.
